I think Walter himself is one person who should know: Walter, for your French sites do you usually NOT try blabla.fr after trying blabla.be? Do only you try blabla.be and then straight blabla.com? And I don't mean necessarily for your own needs, you're obviously a good English speaker, so it shouldn't really bother you much if you went straight to .com, which is typically in English, I mean when you try to find a reference in French in particular, for you, your family or your friends...
