Hello,

I'm an experienced programmer with a PhD in Computer Science and many years
of technical experience on Wikimedia wikis, including serving as an
Interface Administrator on a couple of Wikipedias.

I’ve wanted for some time to start contributing as a MediaWiki developer,
and I finally have time for it now. I began by fixing bugs in
Extension:GlobalWatchlist (as part of the IP-masking preparations). If this
goes well, I plan to look into more Phabricator tasks related to this
extension.

I have a Gerrit patch ready — it has been approved by Jenkins and SonarQube
bots. The next obvious step is to test whether it works properly “live.”

So my question is: can I request to have this extension deployed on the
Beta wiki so I can debug it? How should I go about doing that? And how can
I deploy my patch from Gerrit afterward?

The issue is that the original creator of the extension is no longer active
on-wiki, and currently there’s no one maintaining it. I previously wrote
code that addressed a specific aspect of this extension but wasn’t involved
in its deployment. I found a few pages explaining how to deploy a *new*
extension, but not much about deploying an existing one that’s already in
MediaWiki.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
