Dear Hermann and robotic collegues,

as I mentioned on an earlier mail to Hermann, I am very interested in
joining the consortium, whose objectives are very much in line with one of
my current projects. I will reply with my comments to the proposal later on.

As a way of introduction, let me briefly describe my current project on
real-time robot control. The project started a few years ago at the Rizzoli
Hospital in Bologna (italy), with the porting of part of RCCL to a PC for
the control of a PUMA 260. We are externding that project at the Univ. of
Verona, to make it into a teaching tool for my robotics class. We are in
the process of interfacing a PUMA 560 to a PC running RT-Linux, then we
will put the PC on the net and develop a simulator and programming tool,
so that my students could develop and test programs in simulations and then
downloaded them to the real robot. Much of the elements necessary for the
project are available in the public domain, so I expect a rapid
development. I did not plan to code according to OSF guidelines, but this
can be easily added.

In the hope of joiinig the proposal team, I send you my best whishes for a
Merry Christmas and a very happy New Year.

paolo
