Installing kernel sample

I've downloaded kernel sample. There is a Makefile in main directory (../kernel_sample/Makefile) but it does nothing. There is an error message like:

ke target 'kernel.cxx', needed by 'kernel'  

While doing make in kernel_sample/cascade directory an error occurs. You can see it in attached cascade_make_error file. What 
to do?

Is RTAI needed to install this kernel_sample?
