I am definitely not qualified to answer your question, but I am stuck with the hardware we have - an arcnet interface to a robot controller (the robot is a Mitshubishi PA-10). As far as making my interface real-time, I will take whatever path offers least resistance - be it port existing arcnet drivers or take advantage of existing real-time drivers.
