The ladies 500 was (except for Jorien ter Mors, which suffers from a knee injury) very disappointing, with hardly any international comparison/connection there. Looking at Floor van de Brandt, who is a good talent (for a couple of years now), nobody seems to manage to get her to skate two good (or even one good) corner. This also goes for the Neeling, who lacks technique and coordination to reach for the international top. The 10000 m of SLP is a new track record (yes I know it will be crushed in three weeks) and a championship record. Also the 500 and 1000 m for both genders were championship records. Also, there has never before been a 1500 m outside of Calgary or SLC with 4 Norwegians below 1.47,5. There has never before been a 5000 m with 8 Norwegians below 6.40. There has never before been a 10000 m with 8 Norwegians (Henriksen did 13.50 but was dq-ed) below 14.00. SLP is at a higher level than at the same time last year (he won the 1500 m narrowly despite a huge mis-stroke). Håvard Bøkko is skating on the same level as the same time 5 years ago (I suspect his 500 m would be worse now, though). Allan Dahl Johansson did not skate 1500 m below 1.50 in Europe in the 2017 season, yet he won both 1000 and 1500 m in Helsinki. Now he has done 1.47 on 1500 two weeks in a row. SSN has never before skated below 6.32 in Norway. Bart Swings did 6.30 outside the competition. HHL recently broke his hand in a bicycle crash but does not seem to be bothered too much by this. Hvammen is out of shape and only qualified for the Stavanger world cup where Norway has 5 spots. Njåtun has been struggling with sickness. The funny /unusual thing is, when comparing the results from Heerenveen and Stavanger, the gap between Holland and Norway is smallest on the women's 500 m. Nils Meland -----Opprinnelig melding----- Fra: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sendt: mandag 30. oktober 2017 16.40 Til: [email protected] Emne: RE: [Skate] Norwegian Single Distances Championship Generally agree. Lunde Pedersen, while skating a few good 3000 ms this season, seems so far to be at approx the same (slighty disappointing) level as last year. Håvard Bøkko’s results in his come back season seem so far not to suggest any top 6 positions in the Olympics and not any samalog medals in the all round championships. Henriksen and Spieler Nielsen’s performances are perhaps slighty better than at the same time last year, but not much. Lorentzen has skated very well, but looking at the results from foreign competitors so far, he will have very tough competition. Aarnes Hvammen seems to be completely out of shape. Hege Bøkko maybe a little bit behind schedule and expectations after the superb performance at last year’s Sprint WCh. Ida Njåtun seems to be really struggling to get back to her level a few seasons ago. The most promising is Dahl Johansson. While some maybe have expected him to progress even faster, I think his last two 1500 ms bode quite well. He also PBed with 10 secs at the 5000 m, although he’s still a bit behind f.ex. some Dutch junior peers. But it’s early in the season, let’s see what the first World Cup races will bring. Or am I too negative now?
