Ford Fuel Cell Vehicles to be Tested in Vancouver

As part of a three-year collaborative development program, Ford, Natural
Resources Canada and Fuel Cells Canada plan to place five
hydrogen-fueled Ford Focus fuel cell vehicles on the streets of
Vancouver in early 2004.   The vehicles will be a hybrid-electric fuel
cell version of the Ford Focus, utilizing a Ballard fuel cell engine and
a Dynetek compressed hydrogen storage tank.

Palcan Showcases Fuel Cell Powered Scooter.

Palcan Fuel Cells has integrated its 2-kW fuel cell stack system into a
scooter, to be marketed in Asia and India.  Palcan's fuel cell uses the

Hyundai and UTC Join to Develop All-Weather Fuel Cell Vehicle.

Hyundai Motor Co. and UTC Fuel Cells, have signed an agreement to
jointly develop a new automotive fuel cell power plant capable of
operating in freezing conditions.  The agreement calls for Hyundai and
UTC Fuel Cells to work jointly to develop a freeze-capable fuel cell
power plant and integrate it into a Hyundai sport utility vehicle
platform. Hyundai plans to make fuel cell vehicles available for lease
by fleet operators by 2004.

Hydrogenics Sells Power Modules to Deere & Co, Receives Funds from
Canadian Government.

Hydrogenics Corporation has sold six of its 10-kilowatt HyPM-LP2 fuel
cell power modules to Deere & Co. for integration and evaluation in
off-road vehicle applications, including grounds equipment and utility
vehicles. Hydrogenics also announced that Natural Resources Canada
(NRCan) is providing CAN$500,000 to fund reliability testing and further

Customer.

Helios Crashes into Pacific Ocean.=20

The remotely operated Helios Prototype solar-electric flying wing was
destroyed when it crashed into the Pacific Ocean. The Helios ran on
solar power by day and used fuel cell power at night. The crash occurred
29 minutes into a functional checkout flight.  NASA will form an
accident investigation team to determine the exact cause of the crash.

Avista Labs Installs Fuel Cell at FAA Site.

Avista Labs has completed the installation of a three-kilowatt fuel cell
system for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) that will provide
critical backup power for a radio transmitter receiver (RTR) site
located at McChord Air Force Base in Tacoma, Washington.  The
installation consists of six Avista Labs Independence 500(tm) fuel cells
housed in an outdoor enclosure that contains both the fuel cell system
and the hydrogen fuel provided by Airgas.=20

Zoot Enterprises Receives Fuel Cell Delivery.

Zoot Enterprises has received two fuel cell power plants that will be
installed at its Galactic Park high-technology campus west of Bozeman,
Montana.  Zoot plans to use the two 250-kilowatt Direct FuelCell(r)
(DFC(r)) power plants manufactured by FuelCell Energy, Inc.in
conjunction with traditional diesel fuel generators and the electric
grid to meet the electrical reliability requirements of its building and
to support future development for its online credit processing
operations at the campus.

FuelCell Energy Awarded Four Government Contracts, Signs Distribution
Deal With Alliance.

FuelCell Energy, Inc. (FCE) has been awarded four government contracts
worth US$1.45 million.  The awards include US$850,000 for two separate
contracts under the Department of Energy's Small Business Innovative
Research program; US$100,000 from the U.S. Navy's Small Business
Technology Transfer program; and US$500,000 for a two-year contract
under the U.S. Army's Small Business Technology Transfer program.  FCE
has also signed an agreement with Alliance Power, Inc. to integrate
Direct FuelCell(r) (DFC(r)) power plants into Alliance Power's portfolio

NEC Demonstrates Laptop Running on Methanol Fuel Cell.

NEC revealed a prototype of a laptop computer running on fuel cell
instead of a rechargeable battery, and said it will start selling it
next year.  NEC initially plans to introduce a computer with a fuel-cell
system able to run for five consecutive hours on a single cartridge of
methanol fuel, but also plans to make a PC within two years that can run
continuously for as long as 40 hours.=20

MHI Develops Smallest Fuel Cell.=20

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd (MHI) has developed what it calls the
world's smallest fuel cell.  The cell is 100 by 60 by 30 centimeters,
about half the size of conventional systems, and is capable of
generating 1 kilowatt of electricity.

Voller Energy to Use Palcan PC-150 Fuel Cell Stack.

Voller Energy has selected Palcan Fuel Cells Ltd.'s PC-150 Fuel Cell
Stack as the power source in the Voller Energy VE100 Portable Fuel Cell
system.  The new Voller Energy VE100 hand held product is approximately
the size and weight of a laptop computer or portable typewriter and
provides both DC and AC output.  The VE100 also has a 13.8v DC 'cigar
lighter' or automotive type electrical socket which can be used to
recharge a battery in a mobile phone or laptop, or to recharge a
automobile battery.

Avista Labs Fuel Cells Now Available to the United Kingdom Market.

Avista Labs and SiGEN have entered into a collaborative agreement for
the development of fuel cell systems and product sales.  SiGEN has been
appointed a non-exclusive distributor and service agent in the UK for
the Avista Labs Independence(tm) fuel cell systems, which feature Avista
Labs' patented Modular Cartridge Technology(tm). Under the terms of the
agreement, SiGEN will purchase a small number of Independence(tm) fuel
cells during 2003, with an increase in those numbers for 2004. The
agreement runs through May 2005.

Showa Shell Opens Tokyo's First Liquid Hydrogen Station.

Showa Shell Seikyu KK opened the first liquid hydrogen refueling station
in Tokyo, under the Hydrogen Refueling Station Pilot Program. The
station is part of the Japan Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Demonstration
Project, a program sponsored by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and
Industry to build five hydrogen fueling stations in the Tokyo

Vandenborre and Shell Team Up on Home Refueling.

Vandenborre Technologies N.V. has signed a development, marketing and
sales agreement with Shell Hydrogen.  Under the agreement, Shell
Hydrogen, which will obtain non-exclusive rights to act as agent for
Vandenborre's home refueling technology, will conduct market analysis of
the potential of home hydrogen refueling, while Vandenborre will develop
and manufacture home refueling units.  The companies expect to introduce
a prototype unit for field testing within a year to the European market.

QuestAir Awarded Government Funding.

QuestAir Technologies Inc. will receive CAN$720,000 in partnership
funding from the Government of Canada and the Government of British
Columbia under the Western Economic Partnership Agreement (WEPA), to
support the research and development of QuestAir's hydrogen purification
technology.  The project will be administered by Fuel Cells Canada
through its Fuel Cell Demonstration Projects program, and will be
located at the National Research Council's Fuel Cell Technology
Laboratory in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Hydrogen Safety to Introduce Hydrogen Training Curriculum.

Hydrogen Safety, LLC will launch a new Internet-based training
curriculum focused on the safe use, transport and storage of gaseous and
liquid hydrogen and the design of hydrogen-power products. The new

Millennium Cell Releases Poll Results.

Millennium Cell joined with U.S. Borax Inc. to release the results of a
new poll conducted by Harris Interactive, Inc. which found that 85
percent of Americans are

"willing to try a new hydrogen-based fuel for their vehicles."
According to the poll, which was commissioned by the two companies,
safety was rated (by 83%) as the most important issue in accepting
alternative fuels. The second most important issue was cost (78%),
although nearly half of the respondents (44%) said they would be willing
to pay at least twice as much as they pay now for gasoline.

Advanced Measurements (AMI) have been selected by the National Research
Council Canada Institute for Fuel Cell Innovation (NRC-IFCI) to provide
a dual solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) test stand for its research and
development of SOFC's.  The dual test stand will provide testing
capability for low flow fuel cells up to 100W as well as higher flows in

Military Fuel Cell Markets.

Land Warrior, next generation combat vehicles, and portable electronics
may all be the beneficiaries of fuel cells, as dictated by efforts by
the U.S. Department of Defense to increase spending on higher efficiency
energy sources for military power supplies.  Fuel cells have the
potential to replace current power supplies of batteries and diesel
generators, or even supply essential, reliable power in the digital
battlefield, claims research firm Allied Business Intelligence (ABI) in
their latest study, "Military Fuel Cell Markets:  Market Potential and
Opportunities in a New Era of Military Applications."  ABI expects the
first military fuel cell units, to be deployed in 2006, to number in the
low thousands, and are expected to reach 45,000 units by 2014.

Germany's Fuel Cell Market.

Fuel Cell Today has published a new survey about the progress of the
German fuel cell industry.  Almost 2,800 employees are working in more
than 350 organizations in Germany on fuel cell related activities,
according to the report.  In the 1950s, German companies such as Siemens
and Varta had started working on alkaline fuel cells (AFC) and many fuel
cell demonstration initiatives have been first set up in Germany. Today,
the country's fuel cell industry is amongst other leaders such as Japan,

Massachusetts Emerging Technology Demonstration Solicitation.=20

Massachusetts Technology Collaborative (MTC) has issued its Green Power
Program Emerging Technology Demonstration Solicitation. MTC counts fuel
cells as an eligible technology, as long as the fuel cell uses an
eligible renewable fuel as defined in the solicitation. Grants of up to
$500,000 will be awarded. Initial applications are being accepted from
June 26, 2003, until $2 million in funding has been allocated. Deadline

Third Frontier Action Fund Seeks Proposals.=20

The Third Frontier Action Fund seeks proposals in three technology focus
areas, one of which is dedicated to supporting Ohio's Governor's Fuel

United States, European Union to Collaborate on Fuel Cell Projects.

U.S. Department of Energy Secretary Spencer Abraham delivered a keynote
address to the European Commission's Conference of the High Level Group
on Hydrogen and Fuel Cell (HLG-HFC) technologies. At the Conference, the
EU and the United States formally agreed to launch cooperative projects
in the field of fuel cell technologies, including demonstrations of fuel
cell vehicles and refueling structures, and fuel cell code & standard

U.S. to Cooperate with Brazil on Hydrogen and Fuel Cells.

Energy Secretary Spencer Abraham signed a Memorandum Of Understanding
with Brazilian Mines and Energy Minister Dilma Rousseff to formally
initiate bilateral cooperation on energy modernization and new
technologies. The signing of the MOU has initiated discussions to
collaborate on hydrogen and fuel cells, and for Brazil to become the
first Latin American country to join President Bush's proposed
International Partnership for the Hydrogen Economy.

NSF Selects First Industry/University Cooperative Research Center for
Fuel Cells.=20

The National Science Foundation (NSF) has selected the University of
South Carolina's College of Engineering and Information Technology to be
the nation's first Industry/University Cooperative Research Center for
Fuel Cells. NSF funding for the center will total $210,000 over three
years.

Alberta Institute to Head Fuel Cell Research Project.

The Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) plans to lead a
$3.3-million public/private partnership to study the use of high-voltage
fuel cell technologies.  Under the partnership, which includes the
government of Alberta, Western Economic Diversification Canada (WEDC),
ATCO Gas and Climate Change Central, NAIT will receive a 200-kilowatt
phosphoric acid fuel cell. The research team will look for innovative
ways to use fuel cell energy, including heating the school swimming pool
and cooling academic buildings. Additionally, the school will manage a
campaign to raise public awareness of fuel cell technology.=20

Boeing Joins Chrysalix Energy.

The Boeing Company has joined the Chrysalix Energy Limited Partnership,
which consists of Ballard Power Systems Inc., BASF Venture Capital, The

Fuel Cells Canada has received a CAN$1.5-million contribution from

Rogers Corporation Initiates Development Work on Fuel Cells.

Rogers Corporation is working to develop and sell fuel cell stacks in
systems requiring 20 watts to 5 kilowatts of power.  Rogers has worked
with a number of companies over the past few years on specialty
materials for use in fuel cells and recently signed an agreement to
license additional technology related to its own development activities.
The technologies involved include proton exchange membrane (PEM)
materials, bipolar plates, and stack control systems.

Standards Board Approves IEEE 1547.

The Standards Board of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics
Engineers (IEEE) has approved IEEE 1547 Standard for Interconnecting
Distributed Resources with Electric Power Systems.  IEEE started work on
the standard in 1999. More than 350 individuals participated on the
working group that formulated the standard, which can now be used in
federal legislation and rulemaking, and by utilities in developing
technical requirements for interconnection agreements.
