Toyota Motor Company recently delivered fuel cell vehicles (FCVs) to the Aichi and Nagoya governments, three months later than initially planned. The delay was the result of hydrogen leaks in the vehicles' fuel systems, a problem since repaired. Toyota also presented FCVs to Nippon Oil Corporation, Toho Gas Company and Tokyo Gas Company. Each FCV is being leased at a rate of 1.2 million yen (about $10,212) per month.=20=20= =20 Fuel Cell Locomotives Coming Down the Track. The U.S. Army National Automotive Center (NAC) is funding an international consortium to develop and demonstrate a 109-metric ton, 1-MW fuel cell locomotive for military and commercial railway applications. Starwood Hotels & Resorts signed an agreement with PPL Corporation to install, own and operate individual 250-kilowatt FuelCell Energy fuel cell systems at both the Sheraton Edison and the Sheraton Parsippany hotels. The Sheraton Parsippany Hotel's fuel cell project is scheduled for completion this month. The fuel cell is funded through the AETDL in partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy and is housed at Fairbanks Natural Gas (FNG) in Fairbanks. Ballard Power Systems introduced the Nexa(r) RM Series, its hydrogen fueled stationary fuel cell power generator. The Nexa(r) RM Series is based the Nexa(r) power module and is geared toward the uninterruptible power system (UPS) and telecommunications power markets.
