To everyone who is participating in the rich dialogue found on this listserv, there is a unique permaculture course given at Earthaven Ecovillage, an intentional community dedicated to sustainable living. For the Earth and all of her creations! Kimchi Earthaven Ecovillage 828 669-7552 The Fundamentals of Permaculture Design Course A&A House at Earthaven Ecovillage is excited to announce a 5-weekend Fundamentals of Permaculture Design Course, beginning on May 7 - 9, 2004, and continuing one weekend a month thru September. Classes will be held at Earthaven Ecovillage, an intentional community near Asheville, North Carolina. Permaculture is a holistic design system, available to anyone, offering the possibility to disengage from consumer culture, through practical design solutions which emulate natural patterns. Permaculture combines ancient wisdoms with scientific knowledge to form a set of ethics and principles for creating sustainable culture. Begun in Australia in the early 1970s, Permaculture has become a worldwide movement, with over 100,000 design course graduates. This 5-weekend course, while covering the requirements for Permaculture Design certification, will allow more time for hands-on and cultural activities than most Fundamentals courses. Along with lecture and design practice, a student can expect to participate in gardening, orcharding, pond making, natural building, songs, circles, erosion control, rockwork, campfires, skinny dipping, saunas, wastewater system design and implementation, storytelling . . .. The 5-month format also offers the opportunity for students to get this vital information at a very low cost. A&A House, host of the event, is offering a work-exchange scholarship of up to 50% for help with implementation of the many permaculture projects at A&A House. "The primary aim of Permaculture," says Patricia Allison, primary instructor for the course, "is healing - healing through restoring injured ecosystems, broken cultures, and wounded people. The principles of Permaculture are applicable for redesigning our lives, both the internal and external landscapes, to be more sustainable, and to contain more health, joy and beauty." Cost is $100/weekend or $400 if paid by the end of the first weekend. Work exchange is available. Lodging is separate: $7/night camping or $11 - 25/night indoors.
