I agree with Dan re: NVC
We have used NVC here at EarthSea Ecovillage for almost ten years & it has
made both day-to-day living more pleasant and concensus decision making
possible.

Our 15 year old son just returned from a prolonged visit with another
family & remarked that he wasn't comfortable there for long and that being
there made him tense and anxious just like at public school(which he
returned to last year after much home-schooling). I asked him questions
until it became apparent that he didn't realize that our community worked
hard to establish and maintain an NVC-he just grew up here (like a fish in
the water)-and is just finding out what the outside "norm" is like. Now
that he is aware of where the difference comes from we hope he will be both
a little more understanding of others and look for opportunities to
influence others with NVC attitudes, behaviours, and example.
