December 20, 2003; www.icdb.org;  The Intentional Community Database
(ICDB) announced availability to the public today, offering the
world's first searchable listing of intentional communities around
the planet.

The ICDB makes it possible for a seeker to specify exactly what he is
interested in and quickly generate a list of desirable
communities.  "This will save thousands of hours of web searching for
enthusiasts worldwide," commented <pundit>

ICDB supports communities of all kinds, including eco-villages,
income sharing communes, and pods and supports most languages.  It
permits multiple members of the community to describe themselves in
multiple dimensions, including membership, location, governance,
spirituality, sexuality, diet, finances, and visitor status.

After six months of trial availability, the ICDB already houses
records for more than 250 communities from 5 continents. "As much as
I love the very few exiting directories on paper (i.e. www.ic.org),
this online database is a lot lighter on my back," commented <seeker>.

ICDB was made with open-source and free software and was made
possible by volunteers from the communities movement. Ofek, an ICDB
website designer, spent more than two years visiting communities
around the world with his family (www.economads.com) and experienced
the need for an online resource. "Almost every community we visited
was looking for more people.", OfeK said simply, "With ICDB there are
more accessible than ever. If only we had such a resource while
traveling!"
