Regarding the AM_PATH_XSLT 'macro not found' problem:

Note that, for some reason, the libxslt.m4 file does not actually get
installed anywhere by either the Debian libxslt1 or libxslt1-dev
packages. (Why, I don't know...)

So the libxslt.m4 dependency won't work for Debian (or not unless users
compile and overwrite the package install in the distro).
