installing and using docbook2x-0.8.5

Hi,

since Debian only ships doxbook2x-0.8.3, I thought about trying out version 
0.8.5. However, I fail with that one:
$ docbook2man --encoding=UTF-8 scmxx.ru.xml
/usr/local/bin/db2x_xsltproc: Unknown option: e
Try "/usr/local/bin/db2x_xsltproc --help" for more information.

no element found at line 1, column 0, byte 0 at /usr/lib/perl5/XML/Parser.pm 
line 187

$ db2x_xsltproc  scmxx.ru.xml
warning: failed to load external entity ""
cannot parse


xmllint tells me, that the input file is ok.
I installed all modules:
XML-NamespaceSupport, XML-SAX, XML-Parser and XML-SAX-Expat (Perl modules)
by installing the corresponding Debian packages:
ii  libxml-namespacesupport-perl 1.08-3
ii  libxml-parser-perl           2.34-4
ii  libxml-sax-expat-perl        0.37-3
ii  libxml-sax-perl              0.12-5

What can I do about those errors. Additionally, this is a russian refentry, 
the XML file is encoded in UTF-8. If I run it without the --encoding=UTF-8, I 
get:
$ docbook2man scmxx.ru.xml
/usr/bin/iconv: ungültige Eingabe-Sequenz an der Stelle 58
/usr/local/bin/db2x_manxml: program in pipeline exited with an error

The output is incomplete in this case:
.\" -*- coding: us-ascii -*-
.TH scmxx 1 2005-03-11
.SH 
Obviously, it fails with the russian translation of refnamediv.
