Only once the contents are done, and only if the output format must be a word processor format, I transform to RTF using Openjade and add the final touches in OO. If anyone claims that DocBook is too hard to teach to the average mouse pusher addicted to Word, I always like to point out that an average paper or grant proposal can be written using less than 40 elements (out of >300). I'm currently revisiting an old project that would allow me to enter these 30-something elements using a Wiki-style short syntax.
