In the larger scope of advancement I doubt the deprecation fits with the
stated Blink Mission.

    Blink's Mission:

/To improve the open web through
technical innovation and good citizenship
/

Even though a facility is less used than others does not speak to it's
merits of advancement.
Blink has not done a technical innovation merit based assessment.

Now to be cynical, the Blink/Chromium engine politics appear to me to
favor a gain in perceived speed through short cuts.
Take for instance the javascript rendering 'fiasco'.
Where a page load speed is determined by getting something to appear on
the screen as fast as possible.
Without regard for the underlying script yet to be rendered.

Each time I demonstrate the use of SMIL to an early adopter, there is
palpable astonishment.
