Hi Are,

The simple answer is to look at what happened in the last ten years
to the W3C HTML Working Group. I felt we did some good work leading
up to XHTML 1.0/1.1, but after ten years we have this rather sorry
excuse for an HTML 5, with little of what I would have considered
the requirements being met except what look to be major concessions
to vendors, advertisers and marketers (I'm assuming you may have
read about the potential privacy incurions; whose idea was *that*?).
I'm glad I wasn't involved, as it sounds like it's been mostly a
headache.

But as I mentioned earlier, it wouldn't take much to implement and
use that now. With the modularization of XHTML it's a simple change
to the DTD (very simple), as documented in the Augmented Metadata
spec. What's probably missing is that dread word: marketing.
