* Robert Cerny > > It was not my idea. It was originally presented in an Open-Space-Session 200(8|9) by Xuân Baldauf (and Lars Marius, i think). The way I remember it Xuân proposed building a database of "who introduced who to Topic Maps", preferably with additional information about *how*, so that we could learn more about which forms of Topic Maps evangelization are the most effective. Today I'm mildly regretful that we left out the "how" part, since in many ways that's the most interesting. Anyway, once Xuân made this suggestion the idea of a Newcomb number was more or less inevitable, and I seem to recall that it occurred to more than one person at the same time in the discussion afterwards. It's possible that I was holding the mike at the time, but I can't remember who said it first. Another thing that only occurred to me long after we started building this was that the whole concept might seem a little disrespectful of the other people who helped found/invent Topic Maps. Michel is definitely one of those people, and I guess there might be more. The whole thing was meant to be rather tongue-in-cheek, but if it hurts people's feelings that's a shame. A bit late to say this now, I guess. --Lars M. http://www.garshol.priv.no/tmphoto/ http://www.garshol.priv.no/blog/
