That sounds reasonable--they should be a cinch to strip out.

Just to be sure I caught that right, you're saying that the canonical
format will replace all symbolic tags with verbatim tags?  Will the
above directives be absent, then?

I understand, and I appreciate the feedback.  It sounds to me like
I'll get what I want.  I look forward to giving it a try.
