needed project ideas asap!

Hi all I am bharat from mysore. I am totally blank about project ideas
for 7th sem Networking , Java and CGI project. I needed some really
cool ideas . I dont want to reinvent the wheel. Now the constraints
are

Networking
==========

1) We are supposed to do in application layer
2) We are using C on linux ;)
3) We want one that can be coded within 3 months and we would like
Open Source project ideas

Java
====

1) Need a simple project that can be coded in weeks
2) The project is to develop some application and shoudl make use of
fully the graphics library abilities of java

CGI
===

1) not sure which to pick PERL or PHP
2) any interface suggestions please like management systems.

Please tell me ideas Asap and help me impress them and give me
satisfaction that i have done somethign worthwhile in my engineering
guys. No flaming please !
