RE: Perl vs Java - your feedback, not flames

There are two other aspects I would like to hear your views on:

1) No compilations in Perl. I thought this was one of biggest attractions of Perl, at least for me. I never liked compiling Java apps since javac was painfully slow. jikes has been a great replacement for javac but still, compilation can really slow down the development cycle.

2) Perl has always been doubted for scalability. Apparently, when developing a large project, people have all the confidence in Java, but mention Perl once and the first comment is "It is good for fast prototyping but probably, not good enough for full-scale development". What do you think? Why does the burden of proof lie on Perl? I will be looking for some large projects in Perl (and Java) right after I am done writing this email, but if something comes to mind, please feel free to mention it.
