I believe the real question is not about suitability of Perl, but about 
suitability of scripting languages in general. If scripting languages are 
proven good enough for enterprise-scale applications, then Perl will 
automatically qualify.

If the question is rephrased therefore, examples are many:
Google uses Python extensively for large parts of their site. So does NASA, 
and Yahoo, and many more.

Whatever be the technical/philosophical/emotional merits of PHP/Python or 
any other scripting languages, it is an undisputed fact that Perl has the 
largest breadth of proven third party library support. This is a critical 
criteria of many projects.
