I'm sorry, who needs that hope?  This is precisely why I've been
advocating against Java from the outset -- it's controlled by a single
company and hence subject to the whims and fancies of wherever that
company wishes to take it, or to kill it if it chooses.  The merits
and/or demerits of the language itself are a trivial, secondary
concern.

Monocultures are bad.  Monocultures owned by a single corporation are
worse.  Of course, the worst are monocultures owned by an individual,
but fortunately we don't have too many of those (except the BJP?  Just
kidding!)

Stick to languages that are truly open -- either defined by a
committee or distributed under licenses that permit you to enhance,
bug-fix and redistribute.  Or maybe we should just be happy that we
will now have MS take over Java and make it even more potent, powerful
and pervasive!
