(Specially Debu and > vivek) hey varun , honestly glad that you wrote . Coz that is what this mailing list needs ( a bit of fire , a bit of enthusiasim and a lot of opinions ) . This is an open / free ( free as in free speech ) forum , so you have every right to state your opinion . Dont worry ! > Firefox Sucks !!! Hmm... That is a big statement to make . Are you sure was your experience a one off event or have you had a bad time with it all the time on different machines . Coz most of the opinions i have heard about it have been favourable , besides my own personal experience has been awesome ( esp. Gmail ( heavy javascript ) runs smooth ( i had serious probs on ie6 with it ) ). Just check out some of the links below http://www.ozoneasylum.com/24194 http://www.ozoneasylum.com/24035 ( Regards with java script ) http://www.ozoneasylum.com/24049 Besides i am wondering what os were you using ? > But the Question i want to ask after all the bullshit is ... Is freeware > software really better than the ones microsoft is producing after billion $s > of research ??? Or is it just in our mind ... Just because using freeware is > cool and the "in-thing" and all the money saving mumbo jumbo. Well i really dont think it is about " free ware being cool at all " . Maybe the *cool quoteint* is an issue early on because it looks like you are into something completely different. But honestly from a programmers point of view atleast linux roolz . No two ways about it. Besides is the money saving thingo really "mumbo-jumbo" . It really doesnt matter right now coz most of the people use pirated versions , which at best is a stop-gap solution. But when you really have to pay up ? you might just think twice . > ... but is it really safer and more stable than windows > ??? Does it really load faster than XP and crashes less ... or is it just > what we think cause its been fed in ours brains ??? Well its really upto you varun. I could show you stats and benchmarks , but the point is that for your own satisfaction you have to try it out yourself. > I remember when i tried installing Mandrake 10 on 500Mhz with 64 MB ram ... > It use to take ages for it to work ... i have still never been able to use > linux on that machine ... nothing worked after installing mandrake...not > even a simple folder opened. But windows xp though it crawled yet i was at > least able to check mails or use my messenger !!! Well on the type of machine you are talking about , its more of a case of tricks and tweaks. I had a similar machine and XP was pretty bad on it until I shut down most of the useless services running in the background and brought in classic menu and theme. That made a big difference . Well if you know the way to tweak linux on that machine it can run smooth too :-) > At the end i just want to say think with an open mind if microsoft is really > spending billions of dollars on research and charging so much for it then it > might be really worth something !!! I guess its a choice you can make , coz you can pay up . I really dont think its a choice for a lot of other people. Anyways , keep writing . cheers , vivek ------------------------ Yahoo!
