Most of the times what we want from a software is that it is fast , simple and elegant . Firefox atleast for me does all these and there is no way i am going back to IE. Besides its non-intrusive which is important. With regards to gmail , i think its simplified email. If you just cut out the initial loading time it takes , its a wonderful journey . Replying and forwarding are absolutely smooth . Putting in attachements ( Heavy ones ) is much faster and it adds contacts automatically ( also differentiates between the frequent ones and the less frequent ones ). Gmail just makes life so much easier because it understands the needs of the users. Besides there are no graphical ads , just text based ones. Hey varun , i honestly think hotmail is going down the dumps . Forget the 250 mb space ( i still dont have it ! ) , the whole user interface is heavy and takes ages to load up. Its not just about space dude , just the fact that most of my important mails would land up in the junk mail in hotmail and would get deleted within a week . I dont think gmail is over-hyped , besides its just something called *viral marketing* ( a way to spread the word around ) and they have been successful at it. If you are quiting gmail , do it at your own peril ( just feel sad that you will miss out on something really good ) With regards to programming capabilities "have we really forgotten the simplicity of VC " . Huh ? is VC really simple ? to me its arcane and intricate where a lot of details have to be remembered. BTW , as amit says the holistic view of Qt and Kdevelop rocks ( i hope varun you had tried these before :-/ ) Kalyan has raised a pertinent question. With regards to applications maybe closed source works , but honestly kary , you really think for something as huge as an OS , closed source is the right choice ? There are going to be so many bugs , and if the source is open to all , they are going to come out in the open sooner or later , but with closed source ... ? cheers , vivek ------------------------ Yahoo!
