Hi All,

I hope this is the right forum to ask about ILUG community?

My name is Vicky and I use to look after Python Ireland but stepped back
after over a decade as well as PyCon Ireland for 4 years. Nowadays I run
other tech events and also part-time at Dogpatch as their developer
community liaison and events coordinator.

I've been ask to draft a guide to the developer community in Dublin, and I
know ILUG has been around for a long, long time. It would great to find out
about its history and show how it started and why it's one of the oldest
user groups in Dublin/Ireland.

All I have is that it was established in 1997 and the following from a
forum:

The Irish Linux Users Group (ILUG) was set up in 1997 to promote awareness
> of the Linux operating system within Ireland. The ILUG also
> acts as a focal point both for developers wishing to contribute to
> the Open Source Software movement and for users of all levels seeking to
> solve their individual technical issues. Much of the everyday interaction
> revolves around our free mailing lists. Additionally our web
> site contains a lot of valuable information for everyone including a list
> of hardware and software vendors who deal with Linux, an area for
> beginners, a library containing books and software CDs for loan, and
> a downloads area where software written by members of the ILUG is
> freely available. Membership of the ILUG is free and is open to anyone.

I'm wondering is there a point of contact person I can talk to who might
have a timeline of ILUG, type of events held, and who currently organises
ILUG events? I would love to include organiser(s) in the "people you should
know" section. :-)

I'm writing the section of Python Ireland since I was main organiser from
2005 - 2013, consultant from 2014-15. I'm also pinging Ruby Ireland, Xcake
and will be asking TOG if they like to be included also in the guide.

Thanks,

/// Vicky Twomey-Lee
