John,
I was at that event in Belfast and I organised my own event in Belfast a
few months back (BelFOSS <http://belfoss.eeecs.qub.ac.uk>). At BelFOSS I
met the guy who had organised the Open Island events that included RMS and
realised we were both from Newry and both live in the same estate. So we
set about organising an event in Newry. It's an unconference GovCamp and
will be held at Narrow Water Castle on 24th Sept 2016. Although not
strictly FOSS or Linux it should be of interest to many on this list. We
are organising at a half-way point between Dublin and Belfast to cater for
everyone and there will be people travelling over from England too. For
more info see the GovCampConnect website <http://www.govcampconnect.org/>.
If anyone wants to hear the full story behind the OpenIsland event with
RMS, Google and Oracle come along and ask Brian about it!
Cheers,
jonny
