it would be better if you try not to map things directly from dos to linux. there's libsvga which resembles dos kind of things, but you'll need root access to use it plus there are other hickups. graphics in unix are done in a client-server mode, the server being called X. there are various libraries for using X, the easiest of them (on linux) being gtk and Qt. qt even comes with a tutorial. you can normally find it in /usr/share/doc/qt-devel-xxx.
