Well, the cable provided isn't Centronics, per se. It's a custom cable
with the standard Centronics pinout on one end and something else on
the other.

I doubt that it is a cable problem in any case. The printer will work
fine on one computer (my Compaq) but not on the other (an Athlone 64
class PC clone).

I suspect it has to do with the differences in hardware flow control
that the Compaq is implementing and the PC-clone is not.
