Hmmm,

It's been a while since I touched Fedora but if it now ships by
default with sudo then what's wrong with

$sudo /usr/bin/program_name &
Password:

and should be going up ok.

The alternative would be to enable the password on the root account.

$sudo -i
Password:
# passwd
Enter new UNIX password:
Retype new UNIX password:
Next you wanna export the display first and then launch the program you wish.
