Update: I've solved my side issues. There was no sound because it was 
muted (why???) and Thunderbird was using so much processor because of a 
new feature called "global searcher and indexer"; since I have many 
gigabytes of email that I don't want included in any search, I turned it 
off, and I'm happy. I installed the "off" button where it should have 
been using the panel editor, and I've changed my theme to "crux" which 
has put the min/restore/eXit buttons back in the right place.

YouTube, then, should I just try to install Adobe?
