Ubuntu Server would be the one to install, of course. I do not have so
much experience with the server portion of Ubuntu, and I would seriously
check about the Raid compatibility and support by Ubuntu. I far from
being an expert in Raid. Any Linux distribution will get update on a
regular basis, and this will not be bettor or worse with Ubuntu.
However, this one is an LTS (Long Term Support), and the update process
should be working fine for several years. 

If you want a bare-metal server, you might want to consider some other
distribution that will only do what you want, nothing else. Ubuntu,
being a general distribution, you have about everything, but not the
best of everything. We are using Suse Linux at work (SLES11), wth
Glassfish for the application server. Works well for us, rather reliable
system. 

If you can spare some test hardware, I would strongly recomment that you
try the install on the test machine and see hoe you like it. As far as I
know, Ubuntu is using standard software components.

I just received notification of that release, and was considering 
replacing my Fedora14 with that, something that doesn't require updating

on a six-month cycle.
I have no experience with Ubuntu on a Linux software-RAID, or running as

a server (http, ftp).
Your experience - favourable?
I'd probably take the machine down to bare metal, rebuilding RAID 
arrays, intending to restore user and server files via USB external
drive.
Would this Fedora-Ubuntu migration be a Foolish Thing? What might bite 
me in the butt?
