You're supposed to rock the whole thing, but I've never gotten good at
it, especially when it's time to hold the mouse key down and move the
cursor at the same time.

I have taken the current Acer to Europe twice, for a total of 5 months,
and 3 weeks in Guatemala, but I never got used to a laptop keyboard,
because the keys don't tell me clearly enough where my fingers are. 

So I always carry a mouse and full-size keyboard.  I lived half of those
5 months in the car, would use the computer in the morning and before
sleeping, but still with the mouse. To read my email and plan my
sightseeing for the next day.  I red newsgroups but not as diligently
when I'm away from home. 

I used to sleep in the passenger seat so the steering wheel wouldn't be
in my way but it became too much trouble to move all the junk off that
seat, pile it on the driver's seat, and move it back in the morning, so
I tried the driver's seat and the wheel and the pedals didn't really get
in my way.  I would roll up some clothes and put them behind my neck,
and use a shirt as a blanket  To use the laptop, I would pile some
clothes on the passenger seat so it was level. have the keyboard between
my belly and the steering wheel, and use the mouse on my leg. 

Now that I know about winkey + H, speech to text, this should be even
easier.

When I started doing this I would put the seat back all the way
(European seatbacks all seem to recline a lot) and I would look for a
hill to park facing uphill so I would be as close to horizontal as
possible.  But as time went on, I stopped looking for a hill and only
recline the seat one notch.   I could sleep unti the dawn's early light,
and later I learned how to sleep until 9, not let the sun wake me up.

I've done this 3 nights in the USA too.  

I often have back pain from sleeping on my side, during the night and up
to 20 minutes after I wake up, so at home, when I fall asleep in my desk
chair it is the most restful I have, but I can't sleep more than an hour
or two, and often can't fall sleep here at all.  Similarly sitting up in
bad.  I don't know why I can sleep much longer in the  car.
