In this case I _think_ the unwanted signal is roughly opposite the
intended direction. Something that casts a shadow from the interfereing
side seemed likely to be helpful, though casting a shadow doesn't seem
trivial: An aluminum cookie sheet had little effect.

That's not a desirable long-term solution, but may end up being a temporary
one. 

This problem arose out of the blue after a software update. Something very
similar happened a few months ago and cleared up spontaneously after some
more updates. Raspberry Pi OS Bookworm is considered somewhat unstable,
perhaps this simply goes with being an early adopter.
