Like i said. In most companies it's not up to the developer to choose an
language. It's decided in a team with project, developer and financial
managers and ofcourse the customer.

Most developers have already a favour for a language, but if you want that
PHP is also used in larger companies you have to pursuade not the
developers, but the managers. And they only what to know if something can be
done in a language and how long it would take. This is mostly done in the
requirement study of a project, in our company the first phase. What does
the customer wants todo and how? Then we have to write the functional
design, than the technical design. This part of the projects takes normaly 2
till 3 months and doesn't involve any programmers.

The customer have to agree with the requirements study and the functional
design (The technical is later used by the developers). Then we deside which
tools are used to build the project. And than (after some 4 months) the
first developers come into the picture..

Within the companies i've worked this is the way a project is started. For
someone who is writing a personal homepage, Microsoft and Sun products are
too expensive, so they gonna use much faster a language such as PHP..
But the main goal of usephp (from where i standing) is to 'sell' PHP. 

But i'm not stopping you from writing a tutorial such as 'PHP for asp
programmers'. Go ahead, we need the content, i'm only warning we should not
focus too much about the code implementation. 

As mentioned SOAP and XML as hot issues these days.
Don't tell a beginning programmer how that is done in ASP (It's looks much
easier because of the VB code), but only how it's done in PHP. But like my
proof-of-concept webservice, i'm also writing an asp and .net client to
contact the webservice, but i'm not going to tell how to write a webservice
in .NET. That is a job for Microsoft.
