Problem with text fonts when generate a image

Hello, we have migrated our web site from a machine with
a Redhat 9 php4 - gd 2.0.28 to another with Debian 4
with php5 + php-gd ...
 
I write you because we have a problem with the text fonts,
when we create an image from a text using "the same fonts"
(because, we have moved the fonts diretory)
 
it is show differents that how it was in the old machine.
 
Now the text in the generate image is more "compressed"
and ... it look like it were in "bold".
 
I was looking for some differenceses beetwen gd 2.0.28 and=20
the version that install php5-gd of Debian 4... and I found
that XBM is enable in my old version, but not in the new...
 
Could be XBM disable the problem???, how can I enable XBM if I installed
it with apt-get installed php5-gd??
 
Any idea ??
