gtk+ is actually gtk2-2.10.4, sorry - was looking in a wrong place.

That is "the other" of the two recommended installation methods,
which I originally tried to avoid. Together with the archived answers
it might mean though, that I DO need php 5_2, so if I do not hear
something else in the near future, I guess I will have to take
that way...
