AMD64/Apache2

Hey All,
I've installed many version of PHP since ... early PHP4 or so. No problems. 
PHP5/Apache2, never had a problem since they came out.

BUT I am trying to get PHP5/Apache2 to compile on an AMD64 machine.

Apache2 compiles/runs just fine.
PHP5 compiles/runs just fine UNLESS I do --with-apxs2 during configure. Then 
the make install crashes with:

Assuming installing a .so rather than a libtool archive.

Any one have any idea? I'd be happy to provide more info if needed.
