Mirror Upgrade and Troubleshooting Operation

    To all official PHP mirror maintainers:

    Starting tomorrow, I will be contacting some of you directly to
coordinate an upgrade of your systems.  At present, some mirrors are
still using PHP4, which - as you should already know - reached the end
of its life cycle in August.  Our goal is to see the official mirrors
"lead by example" for the rest of the PHP community by switching to
the supported PHP generation, PHP5.  The majority of mirrors are
already running PHP5, but there are still quite a few (nearly
one-fifth) who still have yet to make the jump.  Ideally, everyone
would upgrade to PHP 5.2.8, as it is the most recent stable version,
but some may not choose to do so.  At a minimum, migration to any
version in the 5.2 branch would suffice.

    If you're somehow unaware of PHP5 and the changes it's introduced,
or if you have any concerns about making the switch, please check
http://php.net/manual/en/migration5.oop.php for answers, or ask your
questions here on the list.

    The target date for completion of this operation is 31 December,
2008, so that we can start 2009 with everyone using a current,
supported version of the language you are all kind enough to support.

    Upon upgrading your mirror, please send a message to the list to
let us know that it has been done.  As noted above, I will be
contacting all mirror maintainers still running PHP4 directly, and
will be available to assist you throughout the upgrade process.

    In the meantime, if anyone has any questions, please feel free to
