In order to merge it will be hard for both camp since each would want to keep / retain their cards. There might be a lot of alternatives, as some have recommended: Merge other packages into PEAR, sans the phplib db. This way PEAR will gain more benefit from the additional features offered by phplib. In order for this to work, whatever packages that aren't merged should be retained in a separate directory perhaps called "compat" or "phplib" However, since there is apparently some problems with pear's db speed, we do need to take steps to fix this. I believe the first step would be to see the original benchmark script that have been created previously to have triggered this discussion. Sorry I'm just talking not doing anything yet.
