I am all for competition amongst extensions, but I would like to request that if this does not find a maintainer soon, it be deprecated in favor of pecl/memcached. As someone that provides support to the PHP users in the memcached mailing lists and talks about memcached at conferences, I have started recommending the pecl/memcached extension more and more. It has maintainers and has the advanced features of the binary protocol. I do not want to diminish the work that Antony and Mikael did on this extension. It was the only extension available in PECL for a long time. It served me and my interests very well. I appreciate the work they did.
