    if somebody bring this code to a "working" state i would be more
    than happy with that,. back then i just felt i was a really
    bad idea to call a function select() that actually works like
    select() but would only work from global-variables.

    i'd like to see a more complete socket-API in php, but it
    should be well-thought.

    i've not seen that code, but i belive - no. look al the last
    100 lines in file.c and judge yourself.

    i think staying near to the unix socket-API would be a
    GoodThing(tm). i'm sure evan could and would have done it,
    but he seemed to busy back then (i hope i didn't demotivate
    him) and obviously he did not need that support himself.
