The news.. not a great fan. How about only showing the latest few news titles on the right, along with a list of latest PECL and PEAR releases. Then replace the main content with small text snippets about like "Join the community", "Navigation tips&tricks", .., Similar to 'what makes fedora so great' on http://fedoraproject.org/, the bottom half of http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/, and http://www.ubuntu.com/ > Also, I wanted to broach the topic of fixed width vs. liquid layout. I know some work went into making the layout stretch to fill the browser. At the moment, however, this doesn't seem to be working very well. Liquid layouts also make it harder to design a nice layout because things never line up consistently. I am a great fan of liquid layout, but when a single paragraph becomes 1mile long.. it becomes really really hard to read. On a related note: What do you think about cloning the 'mega-drop-down' style for the footer (of all pages)? Wouldn't be similar sized as the current help menu. We could throw in mirror info and stuff like that in there.. -Hannes
