Just an idea, but I always wondered why don't we have something like
http://www.python.org/about/apps/ and http://www.python.org/about/success/
<http://www.python.org/about/success/>Or like the
http://www.ruby-lang.org/en/about/
The websites for the other languages usually have an about page, where the
visitor can get a first glance of the language, what are the main
advantages/differences over the other language, and links the "famous"
projects(applications and or sites) and the documentation/examples etc.
where the visitor can get start exploring the language.
I found the php.net a little bit weak in comparison.

We have a What is PHP box on the front page:

and a http://hu.php.net/manual/en/introduction.php but thats all.

but I can't found information on php.net about how great the language is,
who uses the language, projects like wikipedia/mediawiki, drupal, wordpress,
facebook, etc.
And maybe it would be a good idea, to push some link from the php.net sites
to the frontpage/mega dropdown (like pear/pecl, maybe the wiki), and remove
some old stuff for example the CVS related stuff should die IMO(
cvsold.php.net, and the commit list mailing lists could also be renamed,
maybe something like something-commits or something-vcs so we don't have to
change that again, when we migrate from svn to something else).
