In theory we could, but in practice there's pretty much never a reason  
to check out both branches this way. Trying to do is usually the very  
time-consuming result of leaving off "trunk" or the branch name when  
trying to checkout a tree in SVN, since CVS users aren't used to the  
new layout of branches and tags as part of the filesystem.
