To answer Adam's question first: as community leader you want to show your
peers that there's a whole world out there of like minded people. The local
user group you're part of is by itself part of a group of user groups,
which gives people the feeling of being part of something huge.

Things you can do with your community is having a world map and put the
stickers on it showing where all the user groups are on a physical map.

Also like Tessa said, it's a bit of marketing for the "local" user groups.
Raising awareness is awesome, especially if you go to a conference and you
see someone with such a UG-sticker, it provides fuel for new discussions
and friendship. Example: handing out PHPBenelux stickers all over the world
gives allows our peers to recognize others at a foreign conference. I've
spotted these stickers in India, Turkey, France, Spain, Bulgaria, Serbia,
Netherlands, UK, Ireland, US and Canada.

And let's be honest, it's just fun to collect them all, right… like the Panini
stickers <http://www.paninigroup.com> of soccer players (or for you US
folks collecting baseball players).
