Hi everyone! AtlantaPHP combines jobs and open discussion on a moderated Google group. We've developed some job posting rules, mostly in response to people doing annoying stuff (e.g. "don't repost" after someone tried to post the same job 3-4 times in one day [or multiple recruiters from the *same* firm posted the same job], "no attachments" after someone sent 5 megs worth of application forms and screenshots, and so on). Our thought is to get as much detail in front of our members on the first pass, so they don't have extra hoops to jump through if they're interested in a given position. We usually cut people some slack (and will often send a post back for minor revisions), but still reserve the right to ban people if they abuse the rules. We should probably add "please reply directly to the job poster" as we also get occasional questions back to the group a la "what's the salary, where do I apply, etc." (which we moderate out) and we want to avoid bothering people who aren't interested at all. From http://atlantaphp.org/jobs/ : - Job must be located in *Georgia or its bordering states (Alabama, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, or Tennessee)*. If the job is strictly via telecommute, then the employer must be located in the same area. - Include a *full description* of the job opportunity. Do not just post links to job boards or messages to the effect of “I’ve got jobs. Call me.” - Include a signature block with your *full name, position, contact details* and* company* - Indicate your* relationship to the job* opportunity (e.g. employer, recruiter) - Indicate *where the job is located*. We only post job opportunities located* in Georgia or its bordering states* - Post *only new opportunities*. Do not post opportunities that have already been posted by you, your colleagues, or a competitor. - *Do your own work*. Do not ask AtlantaPHP organizers to recommend members to you, or to pass along opportunities on your behalf. - *Do not include documents, forms or file attachments of any kind*. As far as recruiters at meetings, we used to allow anyone to stand up for a minute or so and have the floor. Now that we have sponsors, we give them the spotlight at meetings, but encourage others to come network in person before the meeting and/or go out for dinner and drinks afterwards. We still have occasional walk-in recruiters, but they've usually asked us what our protocol is and we haven't had to scold anybody in quite a while. :) Chris On Fri, Jun 21, 2013 at 3:49 PM, Cal Evans <[email protected]> wrote: > Hi! > > I had lunch on Wed. with a recruiter who was trying to figure out how to > find PHP developers for his clients - apparently we hide under rocks or > something. :) > > My advice to him, and every recruiter, is get involved in the local PHP UG. > > Nashville PUG has very few rules but one of them is about job postings.
