I'll also happily steal this for DCPHP. Previously, we've just done announcements at the end of the meeting, but especially since parking has gotten so bad that people show up a half hour after start, this might be a good way to just get a good mixer going and then do the presentation. I still ask "who's hiring, who's looking" at the end, and recently I've taken to going down the list from Calling All Papers: http://callingallpapers.com …to try to get people to submit to the increasing number of conferences out there, as well as use it as a launching board for speaking at DCPHP as a way to start down the path to conference speaking. But putting some of that stuff up on slides will be a good way for me not to forget anything (I do try to mention any conferences coming up, Cal's DayCamps, etc.). I haven't been promoting other user groups other than to mention their existence, but I might now that a Laravel group has started in DC.
