unexpected IO-APIC

Hi,
I'm fairly new to Linux, and I have
Debian GNU/Linux 3.0 r1 (7 cdr's) and
Debian GNU/Linux i386 3.0r2 Update
    both from Ikarios;
I've also tried Mandrake 9.1 and Knoppix
With Debian, I am very slowly getting things to work, like graphics with an
apparently unrecognised card (MSI MS-Star Force GeForce4 MX440 (NVIDIA
GeForce MX440). (although it works beautifully with Knoppix and Win 2000)
Also I'm struggling to get my HP OfficeJet Pro 1150C to work with Debian's
CUPS, so far without success, although it worked nicely with Madrake 9.1's
CUPS.

When I hit dmesg, it tells me "Unexpected IO-APIC" and to mail you. So I'm
doing it.
All helpful remarks appreciated! Pls let me know if you need more info.
