UML is user mode linux which lets me run linux in a virtual machine under 
linux.  There is a tool called umbluilder which lest me easily build the 
virtual discs so that I can simulate a "clean" install of various Linuxes 
(so my modifications to various libraries and system configurations will 
not upset the test.)

My UML is build with Red Hat 8 RPMs with all updates (as of a couple of 
days ago)

I was running 5.8.1-to-be
