I agree it is confusing, but there is some strange logic here (I'll look into 
it). The first question F<configsmoke.pl> asks is:

	Which version are you going to smoke?
		5.6.x - Perl 5.6.2-to-be
		5.8.x - Perl 5.8.1-to-be
		5.9.x - Perl 5.10.0-to-be
	<5.6.x|5.8.x|5.9.x> [5.9.x] $

When no prefix was specified on the commandline and one answers something 
other "5.9.x" all generated files still use the "smokecurrent" prefix.

BTW. at this moment 1.16_30 *is* the latest release. I'm watching progress in 
version use on <[email protected]> and waiting for bugreports, so that 
I can finally release 1.17 (stable).
